A MODIFIED MOMENT APPROACH TO SOME PROBLEMS IN RAREFIED GASES.

Abstract

In the present report existing moment methods have been modified to incorporate correct initial and boundary conditions on the distribution function itself. The method is then applied to solve few representative problems. The modified form of Grad's 13-moment equation as applied to shock wave structure leads to solutions for arbitrary Mach numbers and gives thicknesses comparable to those obtainable by some of the other methods.
