A CALORIMETER WITH INTERCHANGEABLE ABSORBERS FOR ABSORBED DOSE MEASUREMENTS,

Abstract

A calorimeter for measuring absorbed dose is described that has interchangeable absorbers which can be placed within 2 cm of the source of radiation. The isothermal environment is maintained with boiling liquid nitrogen and a thermal switch permits rapid cooling of the detector. Absorbed dose measurements for four absorbers, C, Al, Si and Ge, are presented. Exposures at a 250 kV constant potential x-ray machine are compared to calculated values at four effective energies, 35, 65, 110 and 180 keV. (Author)
