INVESTIGATION IN REGION OF FRICTIONAL MATERIALS (ISSLEDOVANIYA V OBLASTI FRIKTSIONNYKH MATERIALOV),

Abstract

Powder-metallurgy Fe-P alloys contg. 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, and 1.0 wt. % P were prepared by pressing under 35-40 kilonewtons/sq cm and sintering in a protective atmosphere at 1060 plus or minus 10C for 1 hr., applying during sintering a pressure of 150-200 newtons/sq cm. Friction characteristics were determined by friction against dry cast iron with hardness of 1.2-1.5 kilonewtons/sq cm and comparing with similar results obtained with the powder-metallurgy material FMK-11 and asbestos-tar composition FK-16-L. Iron P powder-metallurgy alloys exhibit satisfactory friction coefficients and show wear resistance 3.5 and 20 times those of the materials FMK-11 and FK-16-L, respectively. (Author)
