CORRELATION BETWEEN STRUCTURE AND SERVICE CONDITIONS OF A METAL (O KORRELYATSII MEZHDU STRUKTUROI I USOLOVIYAMI SLUZHBY METALLA),

Abstract

The investigation was carried out with pure nickel (99.99%). After their preparation, all the samples were annealed in vacuum at a temperature of 1100C for 4 hours. Tests were made of the creep of the annealed nickel samples and on samples which had been previously drawn out to an optimum degree of deformation. The previous deformation was done at room temperature at a rate of 0.4%/sec. Conditions of the creep test and the degree of previous deformation are shown in a table. Before the tests, the previously deformed samples were annealed for 1 hour at the experimental temperature. All samples were subjected to x-ray and metallographic analysis. The following conclusions were drawn: (1) a correlation was established between the substructure and the service conditions of a metal. It was shown that each working temperature corresponds to a particular substructure. Such corresponding substructures can be created by deformation and annealing; (2) the treatment of a metal depends on its service conditions; (3) one of the particular features of the substructure is that the higher the working temperature of the metal, the lower should be the latent energies of its sub-boundaries.
