HIGH ALTITUDE TETHERED BALLOON SYSTEMS STUDY. SCHEDULE SUB-LINE ITEM IAE.

Abstract

The present report presents tethered balloon systems configurations capable of supporting a 500 pound payload at an altitude of 100,000 feet in various wind conditions. Technical information compiled, generated and evaluated during the course of the program was used to define these tethered balloon system concepts. Insofar as possible, an attempt was made to take advantage of existing balloon technology, to evolve new concepts and to make judicious selections from previously defined concepts to define the tethered balloon system configuration recommended. A suggested plan for development of a system is presented. (Author)
