ON THE IRRADIANCE FROM STARS IN THE INFRARED,

Abstract

Observational data are given on the infrared irradiance from stars. These data and certain criteria, postulated herein, enable a prediction of the number of stars that yield spectral irradiances (to 22 microns) which equal or exceed indicated levels. Establishment of credible growth rates of the number of stars with stellar magnitude, in the infrared, constitutes the critical element of the prediction technique. The prediction is speculative. It should be closer to reality, however, than current predictions based on spectral extrapolation from the visual components of the radiation of stars. (Author)
