IONOSPHERIC RESEARCH.

Abstract

The report contains research directed toward the investigation of the lower ionosphere. Specific emphasis was placed on the design, conduction and analysis of rocket-borne A.C. conductivity probes and radio wave propagation experiments. These objectives have formed the basis for the studies outlined in this report. As stated in Section I, the present contract has been one of related efforts underway in the Ionosphere Research Laboratory during the period of interest. It is a continuation of Part B of the original contract (AF 19(604)-8012) as well as the work under Contract AF 19(628)-4050, pertaining to D and lower E-region rocket measurements. Following certain introductory material an outline of each investigation performed under the contract is given. These are related to former efforts described in the Final Report. The problems outlined fit under the broad categories of electromagnetic theory studies, ionospheric phenomena, ground based and rocket equipment of development and the physics of ionospheric formation.
