SPECIAL FEATURES OF SUBSONIC FLOW PAST WINGS OF COMPLEX PLAN-FORM (OSOBENNOSTI RASCHETA OBTEKANIYA KRYLEV SLOZHNOI FORMY V PLANE PRI DOZVUKOVYKH SKOROSTYAKH),

Abstract

The present stage of the development of aviation is characterized by the application of wings of complex plan-form - with discontinuities in the slope of the leading and trailing edges, with curvilinear edges, with a geometry which changes in flight (due to the turning of the cantilever). In this paper, details are given concerning the calculation of the overall and distributed aerodynamic characteristics of such wings at low and high subsonic speeds. The methods, based on the theory of lifting surfaces and on the use of discrete vortex properties, makes it possible, with the help of 'the vortex circulation method,' to determine the flow past the type of wing mentioned for moderate angles of attack with sufficient reliability and effectiveness. For steady movement of the wing, a further development is established of the method described in monograph, and work described in Ref. 2 has been advanced for the case of harmonic oscillations, while the method reported in the article has also been further developed in connection with aperiodic movements of a wing and with the effect of a gust of air on the wing.
