NEW VARIETIES OF CROPS FOR THE NONCHERNOZEM ZONE AND METHODS OF BREEDING THEM

Abstract

Introduction of heavy-producing varieties of agricultural crops, that respond well to organic and mineral fertilizers, into collective farm and state farm production plays a vast role in the expansion of agriculture. Within the past four to five years alone, a number of new and valuable varieties of winter and spring wheat winter rye, pea, barley and other crops, have been created. Variety becomes an important factor in order to achieve a high yield of winter wheat. The new varieties must have a number of agriculturally and biochemically valuable signs and properties: a high productivity must be combined with adequate winter hardness and resistance to drought and to being beaten down, and immunity to fungus diseases.
