SOME GENERALIZED EIGENFUNCTION EXPANSIONS AND UNIQUENESS THEOREMS.
Abstract
A generalized eigenfunction expansion method, Churchill's method, and a transform method are used to investigate the uniqueness of the solution of the equation ((the partial derivative with respect to y of p(y)) (the partial derivative with respect to y of phi(x,y)) + q(y)phi + (r(y) the second partial derivative of phi with respect to x) = 0), minus infinity < x < plus infinity, 0 < y < 1 subject to the boundary conditions phi sub y(x,0) + (alpha sub 0) phi sub xx (x,0) + (beta sub 0) phi (x,0) = 0 and phi sub y (x, 1) + (alpha sub 1) phi sub xx (x, 1) + (beta sub 1) phi (x, 1) = 0.
