AN INTERTEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF THE DEFENSE IMPACT UPON A LOCAL COMMUNITY: CASE STUDY OF EL PASO COUNTY, COLORADO.

Abstract

This econometric study incorporates time-series data to analyze the impact upon El Paso County, Colorado by three nearby military installations. The principal sources of defense data are previously unpublished records of military strength, civil service employment, military construction expenditures, and operations and maintenance expenditures. The econometric model is an adaptation of the classical economic base study. Employment multiplier ratios are established by estimating coefficients in least-squares regressions. Exogenous variables are identified by statistical significance of trial explanatory variables. (Author)
