A NEW THERMOPHYSICAL MODEL OF THE LUNAR SOIL,

Abstract

A new particulate thermophysical model of the lunar soil is described which utilizes the results of laboratory experiments with evacuated powders. Excellent agreement is achieved with data acquired at far infrared and millimeter wavelengths. The parameters of the model are consistent with soil properties deduced from Surveyor spacecraft experiments. With minor modifications, the model may be useful in current efforts to interpret passive radiation from Mercury. (Author)
