SEA BOTTOM INSTRUMENTATION INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

Through a broad survey the types of measurements of the physical properties of ocean sediments desired by scientists and engineers are determined. The empirical relationships of the properties are summarized and correlations discussed. A concept of an instrument package for use on a deep submersible is developed and described. It is concluded that a package should be constructed, that standards for sediment sampling should be established, and that the research of ocean sediment physical properties be given objectives.
