APPLICATION OF THE RANQUE-HILSCH VORTEX TUBE TO AIRCREW COOLING PROBLEMS.

Abstract

The Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube, a device with no moving parts, produces significant refrigeration effect when driven by compressed air. This report disseminates up-to-date information on the performance of current vortex tubes, reports the results of an aircrew cooling experiment using the device, and suggests other uses of potential interest to the Air Force. The history of the vortex tube and its basic theory are presented briefly. (Author)
