'LUNA-13' - THE LATEST ACHIEVEMENT OF SOVIET SCIENCE ('LUNA-13' - NOVVY USPEKH SOVETSKOI NAUKI).

Abstract

The article describes the Luna 13 soft lunar landing on 24 Dec 66, and compares the differences between Luna 13 and Luna 9. Luna 13 carried a hammerhead soil density meter, a transducer to record the momentum of dynamic acceleration, and a radiation density gauge to determine the density of the lunar surface. It carried radio reception equipment, programed timing mechanisms, chemical batteries, automatic instrumentation, scientific and telemetry apparatus, and a system to control internal temperature. Morphological differences were compared between the Luna 9 and Luna 13 landing sites. Luna 13 was equipped to record only charged corpuscles in the cosmic radiation, which Luna 9 recorded previously.
