SEPARATION OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL BOUNDARY LAYER (OTRYV TREKHMERNOGO POGRANICHNOGO SLOYA),

Abstract

The line of separation of a three-dimensional boundary layer on an arbitrary curvilinear surface is a special flow line on the surface of a body separating the region of separation and being the line of runoff for the limiting lines of current. Proceeding from the condition of equality to zero of frictional force in the projection on the normal to the line of separation, expressions are selected for criteria of three-dimensional separation. The position of the line of separation is determined from the solution of an ordinary differential equation. An analysis is conducted of the different cases of separation on the surface of a cylinder with slip and on the surface of sharp cones streamlined by supersonic flow at an angle of attack. The position of lines of separation was experimentally determined by the runoff of thin liquid films applied to the surface. It is shown that the separation on a sharp cone appears on the line z = pi with values of the parameter K = 0.85. (Author)
