AN INTRODUCTION TO IMPROVED VARIETIES OF WINTER WHEAT, PEKING 6 AND PEKING 8,

Abstract

Peking 6 is a winter wheat variety which took four consecutive years to breed. Peking 8 is the offspring of a hybrid of Pi-ma 4 and Yso-yang-mai. Peking 6 has a long beard, white husk, and red grain. Peking 8 is a variety of the common wheat species, graecum, with long beard, white husk, and white grain. It was originally highly resistant to contagious stem rust, strip rust, and leaf rust diseases, but it has gradually lost this resistance in the last few years. Peking 8 has the advantages of early ripening, rust-resistance, high yield, and quality grain. (Author)
