THE PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY OF GASES AT HIGH TEMPERATURES.

Abstract

A summary is given of work that was performed in the following categories: (a) molecular spectroscopy, (b) studies of the excitation of molecular hydrogen by electron impact, (c) maser beam spectroscopy, and (d) studies of the scattering of velocity-selected molecular beams. In (a) an analysis of a complicated spectrum, of a type not heretofore analyzed, was successfully made. In (b) the new effect of the polarization of optical radiation from molecular hydrogen excited by electrons was discovered. The effect promises to be a valuable tool in the study of excited molecular states. In (c) the study of the fine structure of the deuterated ammonias was completed.
