A NEW METHOD FOR SPRAY COLORING SILICONE ELASTOMER.

Abstract

A new method has been developed for coloring extraoral maxillofacial prostheses prepared from silicone elastomer RTV 399. In this method, the RTV elastomer prosthesis, containing pigments which impart a basic shade to the elastomer, is sprayed using an artist's air brush with pigment dispersions diluted with xylene to a spraying consistency. The catalyst used for curing RTV silicone elastomer is also sprayed with an air brush for catalyzing the cure of the sprayed film. After tinting, a clear overlay of RTV silicone elastomer is sprayed over the tinted prosthesis to give the illusion of depth and a realistic surface. (Author)
