SEMIMICRO SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF RDX AND HMX BY FERROUS SULFATE REACTION.

Abstract

A semimicro spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of RDX and HMX whereby up to 11 mg of these compounds is hydrolyzed by evaporating to dryness with 5 ml of sodium hydroxide solution (2.5%), the salts are dissolved in 10 to 3 sulfuric acid, a solution of ferrous sulfate solution in 10 to 3 sulfuric acid is added, and the pink color is determined. The method is recommended for the determination of RDX and HMX in compositions containing less than 20% of these compounds. (Author)
