PHARMACOGNOSIA,

Abstract

The book is divided into two main sections. The first section presents a general history of crude drugs in U.S.S.R. with subsequent chapters devoted to methods of gathering crude drugs, storage techniques, shipping methods, inspection procedures, and governmental standards. The second and major section is a detailed classification of all plant sources of crude drugs, classed according to the type of chemical substance recoverable. For each plant mentioned there is a detailed description of its morphology, locale, growing habits, and method used in harvesting. The chemical substance is identified and its therapeutic value briefly noted. Storage rules and precautions are provided. An appendix contains a key for the identification of crude drugs and plant powders. An index gives the Latin designation of each plant. (Author)
