ABOUT A CORRELATION PERCEPTION METHOD (O KORRELYATSIONNOM METODE RASPOZNAVANIYA),

Abstract

In recognizing optical patterns, uniform variations of the average brightness and contrast can be used as permissible transformations. In the correlation method of pattern recognition, one standard picture is established for each situation to be recognized. From this standard, a number of transformed standards are obtained. Then, the factors of the correlation of this picture with each transformed standard may be calculated, and the maximum correlation factor may be selected. An experimental corroboration with 35000 typed numerals and a computer simulation is mentioned.
