THE DISTRIBUTION OF STRESS IN THE VICINITY OF A PENNY-SHAPED CRACK IN AN ELASTIC SOLID UNDER THE ACTION OF SYMMETRIC BODY FORCES,

Abstract

The method of an earlier paper is used to derive formulae from which may be found the spread criterion and the distribution of stress in the vicinity of a penny-shaped crack in an elastic solid which is acted upon by an axisymmetric distribution of body forces. The use of these formulae is illustrated by a consideration of the special case in which the solid is deformed by the action of two point forces situated symmetrically with respect to the crack.
