THE DISTRIBUTION OF STRESS IN THE VICINITY OF A GRIFFITH CRACK IN AN ELASTIC SOLID IN WHICH BODY FORCES ARE ACTING,

Abstract

In a recent paper by Sneddon and Tweed a simple method was given of determining the stress intensity factor and crack shape of a Griffith crack in an elastic body in which body forces are acting. In the present paper the author wished to show that the same method may also be used to find the spread criterion and to determine the distribution of stress in the vicinity of the crack. (Author)
