AN ADVANCED INTEGRATION SCHEME FOR ORBITAL TRAJECTORIES,

Abstract

This report describes and illustrates a variation of the Encke scheme for numerically solving the orbital equations of motion which yields an improved accuracy to cost ratio for relatively complex gravity models. The modified Encke approach to solving orbital differential equations of motion and its 12 - 25% savings potential appears quite desirable with the Gauss-Jackson method for orbit determination problems particularly where large derivative routines are prevalent as it is so simple to incorporate.
