ANALYSIS OF CRACKING IN SWAGED 7075-T6 ALUMINUM ALLOY TUBING.

Abstract

Cracks at the ends of two tapered swaged 7075-T6 aluminum alloy support struts were identified as intergranular fractures by electron microscopy indicating that failure occurred by a stress-corrosion mechanism. In further support of this conclusion, microstructural examination showed that a significant short-transverse type grain orientation existed in the fracture plane. (Author)
