A SEARCH FOR SYSTEMIS FUNGI IN TURKISH SOIL, OCT 66-MAR 68.

Abstract

One hundred twenty-seven soil samples were collected from six locations in three Koppen climatic regions of Turkey and cultured for systemic fungi. None of these fungi was found. Data acquired from previous clinical and epidemiological studies done in Turkey were compared geographically and climatologically with known regions of high endemicity in the United States. The prevalence and distribution of the four systemic fungi, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Coccidioides immitis and Cryptococcus neoformans throughout Turkey are discussed.
