Abstract
This article concerns the automation of design and technological production preparation in the USSR. The 'Man-Machine' principle is chiefly discussed; this embodies the concept of a computer-human designer team which jointly designs various articles of production. The proposed automated design system includes mechanized and automated information retrieval, narrowly specialized information synthesis, augmentation of initial information, compilation of design documentation and reproduction of the same.
