THE THERMAL REACTION BATTERY. III. PREPARATION AND PYROLYSIS OF SOME ALIPHATIC HYDRAZONIUM SALTS,

Abstract

Salts of aliphatic aldehyde hydrazones have been prepared for evaluation as solvents for inorganic electrolytes in a proposed thermal reaction battery. This work comprises an extension of related work with aromatic hydrazonium salts. The aliphatic salts should yield polar products of superior solvent ability. Preliminary data indicate that the aliphatic salts prepared decompose near 200C to yield a predominance of the desired polar products. Problems with instability of the starting material and sensitivity of the product to moisture were encountered. A series of hydrazonium salts containing varied anions will be prepared in an effort to reduce moisture sensitivity. Instability of the starting material will be circumvented by a new preparative scheme which should yield a series of dihydrazonium salts. (Author)
