ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF A MOLECULAR BEAM SCATTERED BY A SOLID SURFACE: ADDITIONAL THEORETICAL STUDY FOR NORMAL INCIDENCE.

Abstract

The present paper deals with the problem of the surface interaction between a rigid surface and a molecular beam normally incident on it. The interaction model is here generalized by introducing a suitable energy parameter which simulates the effect of the dissipative forces acting during the collisions between the surface atoms and the incident molecules. Then, the normal pressures and the total translation energies of all the scattered molecules, as well as the corresponding accommodation coefficients, are calculated. Then, a similarity rule between the above mentioned pressures and energies is deduced. At last, the obtained theoretical results are compared with the experimental ones deduced by Stickney and Hurlbut. (Author)
