ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF A MOLECULAR BEAM SCATTERED BY A SOLID SURFACE: THEORETICAL STUDY FOR NORMAL INCIDENCE.

Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of the scattering of a molecular beam normally incident on a solid surface. By means of a suitable interaction model which takes into account the thermal motion of the surface atoms and the surface roughness at molecular scale 'the velocity distribution function of the free-molecule surface source' formed by the re-emitted molecules is determined. Successively the corresponding spatial distribution functions of the number of molecules, of their momentum and of their energy are calculated. (Author)
