FOR YOU, HUMANITY. (DLYA TEBYA, CHELOVEK.),
Abstract
A review is given of some exhibits at the 'Interorgtekhnika-66' exposition in Moscow. This was an international display of the latest in data processing, automatic control, and computer equipment from some 1000 manufacturers in 18 countries. The Vega, a desk calculator, was introduced as the first to feature automatic decimal point positioning. A long-range control network was demonstrated which comprised telephone ties between Moscow, Kiev, Budapest, Vienna, and Milan. This system was used to simulate remote solution of industrial problems such as inventory adjustment and materials routing. Another system for automatic control of serial factory production, was shown; this enables materials control on both an intraplant and inter-plant basis. A new stored-program data processer using punch-card input and printed or punch-card output was introduced. A large portion of the exhibit was devoted to document duplication or conversion equipment.
