AN ADAPTIVE-CORRELATION SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING SONAR MULTIPATH ARRIVALS.

Abstract

A system developed at NUWC improves gain in the processing of multipath arrivals in studies of underwater-sound correlation using pseudorandom-noise codes. The system correlates the arriving signal against an accumulated picture of the recent history of the medium, rather than against the perfect replica of the expected signal commonly used in the past. Typical results obtained from laboratory-simulated multipaths are exhibited and described. (Author)
