3.2 MILLIMETER WAVE OSCILLATOR.
Abstract
The program involved the development of a permanent magnet focused 10 kW pulsed distributed interaction klystron which operates at 3.2 mm. This tube, designated HOW-2, has demonstrated through environmental and life test programs the capability of withstanding rough environments and an operating lifetime in excess of 2000 hours. All three of the tubes delivered under this contract successfully demonstrated the desired 10 kW of peak output power at a frequency of 93.75 plus or minus 1 GHz and a capability of operating at a 0.0005 duty cycle with a 25 nsec pulse width. The output power and frequency are determined by a cathode voltage pulse in the range 20 to 35 kV. The tube package weighs 37 lb and the collector is air cooled. (Author)
