PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRO-OPTICAL GUN-BORE TELEMETRY SYSTEMS.

Abstract

In the first section of this report, the theoretical limitations and physical constraints of an electro-optical gun bore telemetry system are derived. The model used for this analysis was based, to the greatest possible extent, on what was believed to be a practical system. Various photodetectors are rated as to suitability in the system, and conclusions are drawn regarding an optimum selection. In the second section, the experiments conducted to verify the theory are described. The equations relating received power to transmitted power, and the equations used to determine system S/N ratio, are shown to agree very closely with the measured data. (Author)
