EVALUATION OF RUBBER TO METAL BONDING AGENTS.

Abstract

An evaluation of commercially available rubber to metal bonding agents is made using several common elastomers and steel and aluminum. It is desired to find optimum systems for bonding these metals to synthetic rubber compounds for use in military specifications. Satisfactory bonding systems are found for all elastomers investigated, including EPDM and butyl rubbers. No significant difference in bond strength is found for various types of metal surface treatments. (Author-PL)
