HYDRODYNAMIC SCHEME FOR FORECASTING OSCILLATIONS OF THE TROPOPAUSE (GIDRODINAMICHESKAYA SKHEMA PROGNOZA KOLEBANII TROPOPAUZY),

Abstract

The author presents an example of precalculating the position of the tropopause by means of an equation in which the tropopause is regarded as a substantial surface. On this basis a closed system of prognostic relations is constructed which includes a calculation of the complex of meteorological elements characterizing the tropopause. By using the formula together with an ordinary prognostic scheme it is possible to determine not only the height of the tropopause but also such meteorological functions as temperature and wind in the tropopause. Using two other equations derived in the study the author constructs a closed system of prognostic relations relative to the geopotential wind speed, vertical currents, and temperatures of selected levels, included in the tropopause, and also the pressure in the tropopause.
