KINETICS OF THE PHOTOLUMINESCENCE OF CRYSTAL PHOSPHORS,

Abstract

The luminescence kinetics of crystallophosphors for the case of photoexcitation have been discussed in the book. The case in which the electron and hole traps of the phosphor differ in the main only in depth has been discussed in detail. This has enabled the problem of extinction, stimulation and stationary luminescence to be practically completely resolved under conditions corresponding to the majority of real cases, where the concentrations of free electrons and holes are negligibly small compared with the concentrations of the localized charges, where the recombination probability is small compared with the retrapping probability and where a saturation effect is absent. The luminescence methods of determining different parameters, particularly kinetic, which play the main part in the mechanism of phosphorescence, have been discussed in very great detail. A detailed description of the diffusion theory of phosphorescence has been given for the first time.
