SEPARATION OF A BINARY MIXTURE OF ISOTOPES IN AN ION-EXCHANGE COLUMN BY SUPERIMPOSING A CONSTANT ELECTRIC FIELD (RAZDELENIE BINARNOI SMECI IZOTOPOV V IONOOBMENNOI KOLONKYE S NALOZHENIEM POSTOYANNOGO ELEKTRICHESKOGO POLYA),

Abstract

A differential equation was set up for the process of separation of isotopic ions in the case of an ion exchange column with a superimposed constant electric field. The equation thus obtained permits the calculation of the time for establishment of a stationary condition, the value of the HETP, and the concentration distribution of light- and heavy-weight isotopes both in solution and throughout the length of the column. The experimental and calculated data correspond very well with each other, which confirms the accuracy of the assumptions made in setting up the differential equations. (Author)
