THE UNDERWATER LABORATORY 'BENTOS-300' (PODVODNAYA LABORATORIYA 'BENTOS-300'),

Abstract

The 'Giprorybflot' Institute, Leningrad, has completed the draft design for the underwater laboratory 'Bentos-300,' designed for lengthy fishery research at depths to 300 meters. The project was developed at the request of the Polar Scientific-Research Institute of Sea Fisheries and Oceanography. The laboratory is a submersible which will be delivered to the research area under tow. It will be able to submerge and surface independently, and will be able to hold an assigned depth for a long period of time, or it can bottom and move along close to the bottom using a low-powered propulsion installation at a speed of 1.5 knots.
