PRELIMINARY ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY REPORT ON DEADENING LAKES PROJECT, WASHINGTON COUNTY, FLORIDA.

Abstract

The Deadening Lakes in Washington County, Florida, are located in an area of lagging economy which is lacking in inland-type recreational opportunities. Development of the land and water resource potential of the lakes would satisfy much of the existing general recreation needs of a nine-county area in northwest Florida and southeast Alabama and provide fishing and hunting opportunities. Benefits would also be obtained from the enhancement of land values and increased employment opportunities that would be created by the construction and operation of a project in the Deadening Lakes area and project-induced business activities. Studies made for this report indicate that the total annual benefits which would be derived from development of the Deadening Lakes would possibly exceed the annual cost to a substantial degree, provided the costs for remedying adverse subsurface conditions are not excessive.
