STRESS-WAVE CHARACTERISTICS OF FRACTURE INSTABILITY IN CONSTRUCTIONAL ALLOYS.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine (1) if there is some recognizable, reproducible stress-wave characteristic or characteristics which predict the onset of crack instability under plane-strain and plane-stress conditions; (2) if such a characteristic varies from one material to another; and (3) if such a characteristic is affected by specimen configuration.
