QUANTUM THEORY OF LASER OSCILLATION II,

Abstract

A previously presented, fully quantum mechanical, theory of steady state laser oscillation is developed further. In particular the two-point response functions of the atomic systems are discussed in an approximation sufficiently accurate to distinguish between amplitude and phase perturbations of the steady state field. Second order field fluctuations due to the zero point field are calculated explicitly. The theory proceeds from first principles, is not restricted to small values of the saturation parameter, and makes strong contact with semi-classical radiation theory. (Author)
