ATOMIC COLLISION PROCESSES RELATING TO THE IONOSPHERE
Abstract
The report consists of a summary of the more important results obtained and a set of abstracts of the technical reports published under the contract. The published results include the experimental discovery of resonances in the elastic scattering cross sections of atoms and molecules, studies of the role of resonances in the determination of vibrational and electronic excitation cross sections and of cross sections for negative ion formation, and determinations of elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections for electrons in various gases such as N2, O2, CO2, and H2O. Recent unpublished results concerned with electron attachment in O3 and N2O and with the development of a new technique for the measurement of inelastic scattering cross sections are discussed.
