METABOLIC PROCESSES IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC PULMONARY TB

Abstract

Despite the wide introduction of antibacterial preparations, vitamins, hormones and various biostimulators in the therapy of patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic progressive fibrocavernous pulmonary tuberculosis still remains a fairly common form of the disease. This is partly the result of tardy diagnosis and incorrect therapy, but in the majority of cases the development of these forms of tuberculosis apparently depends upon the macroorganism itself-- that is, upon the peculiarities of metabolism, and the state of the nervous and endocrine systems. On the basis of these premises, two tasks were formulated: first, to investigate certain facets of the metabolism of patients with various forms of the tuberculous process, and to discover its characteristic features in patients with chronic progressive fibrocavernous tuberculosis; and second, to ascertain the limit of possible normalization of the metabolic processes in various forms of pulmonary tuberculosis under conditions of modern methods of therapy.
