A MORPHOGRAPHIC STUDY OF ALPINE PASSES.

Abstract

An objective description and terminology is developed for mountain passes and alpine terrain characteristics. Climate changes between mountain passes and adjacent lowlands are examined. Using topographic maps, aerial photographs and field surveys, mountain passes of the Alpine System are described with regard to slope, dimensions, distribution, climate, soil, vegetation and rock structure. Data are analyzed to determine inter-relationships of these parameters. (Author)
