NEIGHBORING GROUP EFFECTS IN PHOSPHONATE ESTER HYDROLYSIS II. SYNTHESIS, HYDROLYSIS, AND TOXICITY DATA ON SUBSTITUTED-PHENACYL P-NITROPHENYL METHYLPHOSPHONATES.

Abstract

The synthesis of p-nitrophenyl phenacyl methylphosphonate, p-methoxyphenacyl p-nitrophenyl methylphosphonate, p-chlorophenacyl p-nitrophenyl methyl-phosphonate, and p-nitrophenacyl p-nitrophenyl methylphosphonate are described. The facile alkaline hydrolysis of these phosphonate esters containing a neighboring ketonic group fit a linear free energy relationship. Toxicity studies suggest that the compounds be handled with due caution. (Author)
