ULTRASONICS IN MEDICINE

Abstract

A review is presented of the study of acoustical parameters of tissues, the development of dosimetric methods for determining the tissue absorption of ultrasound, and the perfection of ultrasonic therapeutic units. The improvement of ultrasonic diagnostic equipment, the development of better scanning systems, and the production of a narrow ultrasonic beam will equip the doctor with new reliable diagnostic methods. It is believed that ultrasonics will permit surgical operations to be performed without a single drop of blood, and that doctors and stomatologists, in conjunction with engineers, will also perfect the ultrasonic drill. Medical practice will make wide use of ultrasonic inhalators and sterilizers. In the future it is thought, ultrasonics will find everwider application in quite diverse fields of medicine.
