A SUPERSONIC JET OF HYDROGEN IN A VACUUM,
Abstract
The possibility of obtaining a supersonic hydrogen jet, was studied based on the successful application of cryogenics in creating supersonic jets of CO2, Ar, and N2 gas. A hydrogen jet can be realized when the thermal load on a surface washed by a jet of helium is .001 to .01 w/sq cm. A supersonic hydrogen jet can be used successfully to recharge intense ion beams in installations in which injection of fast neutral hydrogen or deuterium atoms is used to create hot plasma. (Author)
