A SUPERSONIC JET OF HYDROGEN IN A VACUUM,

Abstract

The possibility of obtaining a supersonic hydrogen jet, was studied based on the successful application of cryogenics in creating supersonic jets of CO2, Ar, and N2 gas. A hydrogen jet can be realized when the thermal load on a surface washed by a jet of helium is .001 to .01 w/sq cm. A supersonic hydrogen jet can be used successfully to recharge intense ion beams in installations in which injection of fast neutral hydrogen or deuterium atoms is used to create hot plasma.
