RUGGEDIZED QUARTZ OSCILLATOR CRYSTALS FOR GUN-LAUNCHED VEHICLES,

Abstract

HDL has developed a hermetically sealed quartz oscillator assembly, capable of withstanding gun-launch accelerations up to 70,000 g. This assembly, which employs a pressure-mounted crystal, is intended for use in high-g telemetry systems that encounter extreme shock environment in research and fuze-testing applications. The optimum design may be miniaturized to a 0.400-in. by 0.250-in. package. This report describes the various techniques investigated during this development and the degree of ruggedness obtained.
